Our pain has a purpose

You came like an angel

Genesis 45:5″Now do not be grieved or angry with yourselves, because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.”

Mother of four little children stood by the gate last year during the time of admission and requested me, ‘can you take my children in your school?’ There were many people around me with fake salutes, cunning, flattery language, phony respect and sly smile but she was devoid of such craftiness, but instead was very nervous when she approached me. Her fourth boy was below four years old, so I took all the three of her kids who were in the age group of 7,6 and 5; all I knew about them was their father left them. However, I had a very tough time of grooming them for nearly a year, in fact, on one particular day, I met the mother at the gate and said, ‘I just cannot manage them, they are very unruly’, with tears she begged me to discipline them. God strengthened me, within 6 months, the children transformed after hearing the Word of God in the assembly and their academic performance also improved and they are not average but scored top marks. Glory to Jesus! Her grandmother one day met me and said, ‘God sent you like an angel into our life, if not the lives of my grandchildren would have been ruined.’ (Below are the three kids)monica akshara

I shivered as I heard those words because when ‘God sent me’, MARK the words, ‘God sent me’, to Hyderabad, the journey was not pleasant or convenient, in fact, we ran short of money for the transport and we had to sell certain items to make up for it, while the goods were sent in the lorry, I traveled in the train on the same day with my maid and son alone, because my husband and daughter had to stay back and finish some work. Since there was a marriage party traveling in our compartment, we did not get a wink of sleep, not a pleasant journey at all. When we reached Hyderabad, we had no garlands or friends to received us, we were escorted by a believer who did not even help us with our luggage (our training started there in the railway platform itself) All these struggles are frivolous compared to the way God is using us now to build the lives of little children in Hyderabad through our ABIDE SCHOOL  and our Church.

Coming to the scripture, Joseph looked at his brother after 22 years and said, ‘God sent me to preserve life’, did you hear that? He was emotionally broken, hurt, betrayed, abandoned, no words to cohesively put his emotions together; nevertheless, he states, ‘my pain had a purpose!’ Stop running away from struggles, but gain strength from your struggles and live for a greater purpose than just burgers.

Dropped like a hot potato….rejection 3

1 Peter 2:4”And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God..”

Hey, before my experience with Jesus and salvation, I thought I need power from God to fight the devils at midnight, that bring bad dreams, that scare me and frighten to kill me but Oh after I met Jesus and started developing an intimate relationship with Him, I understood I need mighty power from God to stand the rejection, dejection and mockery from my own friends and family circle.  Do you know how ignorance feels? I guess that’s the worst pain imaginable. You can take it when the enemy spits on you but not when the person you love looks the other side, gosh the weight is too much!  How does it feel in a group when every other word gets response but your statement is ignored and unheeded?

I vividly remember a day – as though  it happened yesterday – when one of my colleague crossed my cubicle at work, I looked up anxiously for a ‘hi and smile’ but she walked pass  my desk as though I didn’t exist, I was treated like a chair and desk,  but gave a broad smile and a high-five for the person sitting next to my desk.  I sat flummoxed! I could hear giggles and jokes being exchanged all around me but I was totally ignored! Why? Why?  There are lot of people who were with me during that journey of my life reading my devotions today, I guess the pain and agony were for the very purpose for me to become a ‘pen’ in the hands of my God. I could never talk about ‘pain’ if I had not tasted it. Anybody listening?

After being royally ditched and discarded at my work spot and living like a hermit on the fourth floor of the plush multinational bank building, I walked out with a sigh when God called me to join as His full-time servant, least did I know GREATER pain awaits me out there! When I resigned, I was a mother of two children with a great responsibility on my shoulders; however, nobody were ready to accept us.   I enthusiastically jumped and told my pastor, ‘I am good with the youth’ but I was not even given a youth class, local prayer cells ignored us, NONE I repeat NONE acknowledged or accepted us.  Bad phase! But this period in my life, brought me closer and closer to God, I had none but HIM.  Children education, health issues, financial commitments and a lot more other stuff were choking us too.  Do you think I drowned in this sea, never, I came out STRONGER AND BOLDER!

Today, we have multiple projects and we have launched out into the arena of education and started our OWN SCHOOL, free for the poor children and also free SHELTER for the poor too.  (Click HERE to view details of our ministries)

Before you say ‘YES’

Before you say ‘YES’

Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”

Before you say ‘YES’ to anything, also consider the responsibility, hard work, commitment, diligence, persistence and carefulness that has to go with that work.  If you are planning to get married, just don’t only plan your honeymoon, beauty parlor, marriage hall and photographer, most important is to learn to be a good husband and wife.  Event management people cannot teach you to have a successful marriage which comes only through sacrifice and compromise.  Are you listening?  You can throw stones at me for writing this…..go ahead, you are living in a mirage if you don’t know this.

Behind the cute pics of our Abide School and Abide Angel Home, IMG-20170226-WA0029y1486124307698You don’t get to see the acute pain and struggles of running the show.  We need minimum 100 bags (25 Kg) of rice, dhal, tamarind, chilly and a lot more; however, though we do not have regular donars, yet the kitchen keeps functioning.  One particular season, the inflow of funds went dry and as a family while we were discussing, we felt ‘why not just give them everything else free and ask them to bring their tiffin box’; but the Holy Spirit corrected us and asked us to trust Him.  Just around that time, we were enticed with 6 bags of rice which were ration shop rice for cheap rate, but we refused to go the unrighteous way and kept trusting God for our provisions.  The devil pokes his dirty nose at a vulnerable time, but do not lose hope, trust God and in His mighty power.  I also introduced the S4 feeding program promowhich is inviting people to sponsor for one meal on special occasions; well, God has been guiding us by His grace.

While I travel these days, I carry old clothes, shoes, bags, or whatever I feel is useful for our Home children and also rice, dhal and other ingredients.  Friend, we got to shed some of our dignity if we have to shoulder the responsibility given to us by God.  Are you listening?  Many of my friends and relatives ask me, ‘your school children do not look like they are from poor background and some from the slums’, my answer – “we teach them not only to study but also to oil and comb the hair, polish the shoes, keep the uniforms clean, maintain the books and school bags, carry pencil box with necessary items, wash their hands before eating, housekeeping of class rooms and much more.  Excel in whatever you do!

KINDEphesians 4:32”Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.”

I looked up the meaning for the word ‘kind’: gentle, caring, thoughtful, simple; a very familiar word though; yet, I wanted to talk about it today.  In today’s era of smart society where the toughest survive, there is a severe dearth for kindness.

Recently I attended a Christian camp ( observe, not secular but Christian camp) and it was the last day of a one month long camp, where the organizers had invested hard work and prayers into the lives of these people; yet, I found some ruthlessly fighting for the first row of the auditorium.  My conundrum is, with such attitude I wonder what spiritual benefits they would receive from the preacher! I found indiscipline and roughness (instead of gentleness) in the food canteen, I found mocking and unkindness in the campsite and much more.  Off course, there were the few genuine ones who adhered to the campsite rules, obeyed the elders and were going back blessed.  One particular girl gave her testimony to me, she said, since she had to do other duties, she was not able to reserve seats in the auditorium, whereas the others had shrewdly reserved the best seats, but this girl after finishing all the work went into the hall and found a seat reserved for her in the second row by her friend.  When you are gentle and patient, you would be rewarded!

Do you throw your weight around in the office, just because you are in a high position? How do you treat your servants? Just because you had a bad day, do you emit fumes and smoke all around you or do you control your emotions and not let it affect others? Tell me.  I remember after salvation and my experience with my wonderful Lord Jesus, it was showing in every area of my life – some thought I was nuts anyway.  I was in the gas station and patiently standing while the others pushed their way through, one particular gentleman looked at me and motioned me to go ahead but I told him to go forward instead, without any aggressiveness I was able to be calm.  How do you react to anger? Think.   On the very same day that I read the above scripture from Ephesians, God gave me a similar scripture from Colossians also – now I knew God is speaking loud:  Colossians 3:12”those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience..”

Change your brash & harsh attitude!

Fly mode

1 Chronicles 18:1”….David defeated the Philistines and subdued them…”

This is what is said of Virat Kohli, captain of  Indian Cricket team “ So if you must leap 10 feet in the air to galvanize (stimulate) his team, then there’s no stopping him.”  Kohli is always on flying mode when he is excited and this  fires-up his team.  He is so passionate about winning the game and also motivating his team boys which makes him oblivious of his funny gestures.

Namby-pamby cowards cannot achieve much! When you know God has moved in your life, then it is time to put the enemies under your feet and subdue them, don’t you spare them.  Anybody listening?  Just reading the victory details of David stirred faith and fire inside me:

  • He defeated Moab, and the Moabites became servants to David, bringing tribute.
  • David also defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah
  • David took from him 1,000 chariots and 7,000 horsemen and 20,000 foot soldiers,
  • David killed 22,000 men of the Arameans.
  • David took the shields of gold which were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.

Somewhere sandwiched between the scriptures are the words: “And the LORD helped David wherever he went.” Hurray! There you are! Such spectacular victories cannot be achieved without the help of God!  Midnight,  if your husband is talking with a married woman, don’t take your handbag and walk out, this would give more space for them – chase that evil woman away from your life – that’s challenge.  Fast and pray.  May be you are struggling with addiction of some kind, don’t get depressed if you fail, try again and again, until you chase that addiction away.  Attend good prayer meetings and sought the help of godly people to help you out.

Do you have people at work who are targeting to put you down? Don’t get frustrated, read the victory details of David and get charged to confront your enemies through prayer.  God would change your circumstances upside down.

Seven times hotter…

Brittle buddies!1519876699062.jpg

Daniel 3:23”But these three men, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, fell into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire still tied up.”

Just when you think you cannot go on like this anymore, God would step in to rub your shoulders so that you endure more! These words are nothing but irritating, I’m sure; all we want to hear is ‘God would deliver you soon’, what if He does not? That’s my question for you today! This message is for someone who would like to be in the game and not someone, who would take the luggage and walk out when the first problem shows up! If God is not going to bring you out, He would surely see you through! His invisible presence is felt by your poise and calmness in handling issues, have you watched people go crazy when the washing machine or car breaks down? They are brittle buddies! What does brittle mean sis? Easily breakable.

Friend, the world wants to see you handle crisis in a godly way in your life! No fun in attending 1000 prayer seminars, pray for yourself. Show the world that troubles can’t shake you away from God, is anybody getting this? I watch even elderly people go regularly to church, they would break the world record with their spectacular church attendance; however, my conundrum is why do they not get anything out of this? Church going grey haired people gossip, slander, rebel, throw tantrums, break peace at home, cause confusion, sow bitterness, have no self-control or grace whatsoever, I wonder what the younger generation would learn from such elders!

Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego were no ‘brittle buddies’ but fire brands for God, they refused to budge but stood firm even when the fire got seven times hotter to scotch them; nonetheless, no fire can touch a fire brand anyway! Hurray!

No, confusion please……

Psalm 71:1 “In thee, O Lord I put my trust, let me never be put to confusion…”

Now, this scripture just lullabied and soothed me beyond words, so I’m sure you would be comforted too! When nothing, I repeat nothing and none can give you a solution for the super knotted and entangled mess in your life, only the Word of God gives us a ray of hope! The above scripture and verses that follow it give us a gently calming effect…..

Well, we cannot narrate our mess to everybody, sometimes people build a thick wall around themselves so that the confusion in their lives are not revealed to an outsider; however, spiritual eyes can spot it instantly. This morning, I was preaching on the above word in our school assembly, a young student from standard six was standing next to me and reading the Bible for me, suddenly I asked the students, ‘will anybody who loves us leave us midway and go away’, everybody echoed ‘no, no..’ , I turned to the young girl who was reading the Bible for me and asked her, ‘you, tell me, will they leave us?’, she said, ‘YES, THEY WILL!’ Everybody were shocked, including me, thrice I asked her the same question and she firmly said, ‘YES, THEY WILL!’ That’s the blatant truth anyway! People leave you but not GOD!

I know there’s so much confusion out there: “should I resign, should I marry this person?, should I go in for this loan, how do I come out of this mess, how do I handle this financial stress and a lot more serious ones….Please, please look for a godly and Biblical way out, do not listen to every Tom-dick and harry, it’s dangerous. People who are in tight situations, are vulnerable and defenseless, hence the devil is in full force to attack you – caution!

The Bible goes on to say, “deliver me and rescue me; Incline Your ear to me and save me.” Pray that way and come out, rather than stay in the wrong place too long and drown in a bath tub.
