Ephesians 4:32”Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.”
I looked up the meaning for the word ‘kind’: gentle, caring, thoughtful, simple; a very familiar word though; yet, I wanted to talk about it today. In today’s era of smart society where the toughest survive, there is a severe dearth for kindness.
Recently I attended a Christian camp ( observe, not secular but Christian camp) and it was the last day of a one month long camp, where the organizers had invested hard work and prayers into the lives of these people; yet, I found some ruthlessly fighting for the first row of the auditorium. My conundrum is, with such attitude I wonder what spiritual benefits they would receive from the preacher! I found indiscipline and roughness (instead of gentleness) in the food canteen, I found mocking and unkindness in the campsite and much more. Off course, there were the few genuine ones who adhered to the campsite rules, obeyed the elders and were going back blessed. One particular girl gave her testimony to me, she said, since she had to do other duties, she was not able to reserve seats in the auditorium, whereas the others had shrewdly reserved the best seats, but this girl after finishing all the work went into the hall and found a seat reserved for her in the second row by her friend. When you are gentle and patient, you would be rewarded!
Do you throw your weight around in the office, just because you are in a high position? How do you treat your servants? Just because you had a bad day, do you emit fumes and smoke all around you or do you control your emotions and not let it affect others? Tell me. I remember after salvation and my experience with my wonderful Lord Jesus, it was showing in every area of my life – some thought I was nuts anyway. I was in the gas station and patiently standing while the others pushed their way through, one particular gentleman looked at me and motioned me to go ahead but I told him to go forward instead, without any aggressiveness I was able to be calm. How do you react to anger? Think. On the very same day that I read the above scripture from Ephesians, God gave me a similar scripture from Colossians also – now I knew God is speaking loud: Colossians 3:12”those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience..”
